Ingredients:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Red and green food coloring
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, and then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until well combined.
  6. Divide the dough into three equal parts. Add red food coloring to one part and green food coloring to another, leaving the third part uncolored.
  7. Roll out each colored dough into thin logs and place them side by side. Twist the logs together to create a striped pattern.
  8. Use a sharp knife to cut the dough into 1/4-inch slices.
  9. Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
